KAREN NELSON-HUGHES
Association Manager
Karen is a dynamic leader with a career spanning diverse sectors including corporate events, nonprofit management and media. Currently serving as an Association Manager at Miller/Wenhold Association Management, Karen oversees state and national association activities, board/member engagements, and strategic events.
In her former role as Executive Director at Healing Hands Worldwide, Inc., Karen directed daily operations, fostered critical client and community relationships, and achieved success with fundraising campaigns and impactful events, while leveraging her key skills to enhance organizational visibility and engagement.
Previously, Karen served as Director of Events at The Virgin Islands Dental Association and Director of Major Gifts at the University of the Virgin Islands, where she drove comprehensive initiatives that boosted engagement and support in the areas of marketing, alumni relations and conference/community event management. Her earlier roles, including Director of Corporate and Community Events at International Capital and Management Company, underscore her expertise in managing diverse initiatives to include, corporate galas, executive retreats, conferences, cocktail receptions and community festivals.
Karen's editorial acumen includes serving as Editorial Director for publications at The New York Dailly News and Tradewinds House and Home Magazine, where she managed large teams and delivered compelling content and successful marketing strategies. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism/Mass Communications from The City College of New York and is actively involved in community service through long-standing founding board affiliations such as The Boys and Girls Club, Inc. and Healing Hands Worldwide.
Karen and her husband Kevin are the proud parents of two sons, Kevin II and Kaden.
